Q: What is the proper cylinder mounting pad and cylinder type required to make this accessible from the exterior via a key?
A: For the Jackson 31-1085 Concealed Vertical Rod Device, the correct Cylinder Mounting Pad is the Jackson 30-821J as seen here in 628 aluminum finish:

https://absupply.net/jackson-30-821j628-mortise-cylinder-mounting-pad-satin-aluminum.aspx

and the correct cylinder is a 1" long mortise cylinder with an "Adams Rite" cam as seen here:

Q: Thank you! So, just to confirm, the 8500 electrified trim would be able to latch/unlatch the concealed vertical rod that is already on the door and connected to the 1085 push bar? Thanks!! Drew C
A: That is not entirely correct because the 8500 electrified trim only keeps the lever rigid or unlocked and has no electrical control over the retraction of the last fault whatsoever.
Q: Our Jackson model 1085 does not always close when you exit. To close you must use a key or hit bar really hard. What do we need to do to correct this.
A: Because of this of course could be simple mechanical fatigue on the exit device internal components or a misalignment of the door within the frame itself or the hardware hanging the door. When you state that the device does not always close I wonder if you mean that it doesn't always latch and I would look for some sort of mechanical failure in side of the head case but if it's not closing I might suggest that you review the door closer as well. you'll have to start taking a closer look and determining exactly what base component is causing the breakdown of function - - naturally we can supply you with all of the replacement components for this device once you have determined the cause of operational failure.
Q: What kind of grease should be used on the moving parts of a Jackson 1085?
A: White lithium grease would be my suggestion for the moving parts of a Jackson 1085.
Q: the bottom rod sometimes will not retract. I have to adjust the rod in a higher position often to keep it opening when the panic bar is push in or it will not open at all it will remain in the plate
A: The vertical rod adjustment can be seen on page 16 of the manufacturers product catalog as seen here:

Download File

If you are unable to adjust the rods to a satisfactory level of operation you simply might need to consider replacing the vertical rod assembly all together known as the rod and case assembly which is part number 7 as seen here:

and can be purchased at the link as seen here:

Q: What do I do if I need to install the Jackson 1085 on a 96" tall door?
A: Thank you for the question and if you have 8 ft tall doors you will want to add the part number CRL 301347 CRL 12" Top Rod Extender for JacksonĀ® Concealed Vertical Rod Panic Exit Device as seen here:

Q: I have a Jackson 1085. The locking pins on the bottom and top want stay up. What would cause that?
A: Very possibly a worn dogging mechanism that needs to be replaced - Rich
