Questions and Answers

Q: Hi, I have some toilet partition doors from floor to ceiling in phenolic laminate the doors weight is about 90lbs. My question is if I can pre-mount the hinges on the door side, line up the door with the pilasters and drill the holes and mount the screws on the pilaster? I want to use two sets of hinges per door correctly distributed on the door to help for the weight. Door size is about 60cms. X 245cms.

A: I think your approach is the standard approach to hanging partition doors.

Q: So with the two sets of hinges we will be OK?

A: My guess is , yes but since those hinges are not load rated, I cannot tell you they are correct for the width. You would also have to incorporate your panel width and frequency of volume on the opening.

A Continuous hinge would be the way I would write the hardware set.

Q: Thanks, what type of continuous hinge are you talking about for phenolic partitions?

A: I would suggest full surface perhaps spomethign not unlike the Markar FS 402 AL054 TP 54 in Spring Loaded Toilet Partition Hinge as seen here:
