A: This machine cannot cut "dimple" or European type high security keys. I have specifically worked with this machine for many years and have come to rely on it for those tasks that it only can accomplish, but for duplicating these high security blanks see section 9 page 3 here:

Q: Is there someone who can assist in getting the machine serviced as it is not cutting properly now, it is making bad cuts frequently
A: Absolutely we can. Regardless of the issue - we can fix it.
Depending on what the issues are with the machine and a heads up that anything electronic may be problematic depending on the vintage of the machine and the availability of those components - the good news we can fix it. The bad news is that sometimes it is not as inexpensive as clients would like as a result of upgrading it to the modern construction specifications especially in regards to the electronic components. Regarding of the actual needs of the machine, the machine will get a complete overhaul at that time.
Typically a quote is turned around in 2 - weeks and if approved repair is generally another week possibly 2 - weeks max.

Q: I have a CodeMax 1200MAX key-making machine. The computer that it was connected to has died and must be replaced. I need the software that comes with the CodeMax. I spoke to HPC customer support and she gave me two part numbers that I will need. Part Numbers we need: MAX10-12-UPD MAX10-13-UPD I was told by the CSR that I would need both because they are sequential updates. But the problem is this: we don’t have the original software and the computer that it was installed on is dead. I have replaced it with a Windows 8.1 computer. So I need the software that is used with the CodeMax 1200MAX key-making machine. And it needs to run on Windows 7 or Windows 8.
A: You should not need the original software to install the updates.....however you can not skip any updates - so yes, you do need to buy both. You will only received the 2013 cd because the 2012 update is already included on it. You are only paying for it. Does that help? and yes, it is compatible with win 7/8.

Q: will the codemax cut tubular keys
A: No - the HPC-1200MAX CodeMax will not cut tubular keys. To cut tubular keys you would want to consider the HPC 747XU (the 120 volt version - also available in 220 volt). This machine will cut most of the popular sizes of tubular keys by code, including 7-pin standard, oversized and small bore. It accommodates 8-, 10-. & 11- cuts, right & left-handed cuts, dead-pin cuts and pin-within-a-pin cuts. It also can duplicate a wide variety of keys with any space and depth configuration, as well as duplicate a key from an HPC Tubular Pick and can be reviewed here:

The model 1200MAX is supplied with five standard cutter wheels.
The CW-1011 cutter is used for cabinet, padlock, and most vehicle applications.
The CW-14MC cutter is used for cutting most standard cylinder keys.
The CW-90MC is similar to the CW-14MC but makes cuts with a steeper slope for special applications.
The CW-20FM cutter is a 76 degree
cutter used for Sargent applications.
The CW-47MC is a 47 degree cutter used for certain
automotive applications.
Flat steel cutters, the Medeco cutter (CW-1012), the Emhart cutter (CW-1013), and the ASSA Cutter (CW-32MC) are all optional cutter wheels that are available for use with the
1200MAX.
Additionally, the Medeco Commercial Jaw (MJ-1) is an optional jaw for cutting

Q: How do I cut a Illinois dbl sided key by code on the codemax with no shoulder and 2 different cuts on either side?
A: You would have to tip stop the key blank, use the appropriate spacer bars to adequately fixture the key blank in the jaw and then cut one side at a time.
