  • The 1078/1076 Series Steel Door contacts are designed specifically for use in the steel doors commonly found in commercial building applications. The unique housing design features a rugged unibody construction with flexible ribbed sides for quick, secure installation without gluing. The magnet housing isolates the magnet from the surrounding steel for maximum gap distances, both make and break. Over seven models including: Wide Gap, SPDT, DPDT, and Biased for High Security applications make the 1078/1076 Series the most widely used and comprehensive line available.

Q: what are the wires connected to , is there and connection guide or installation guide for the wires?
A: That is a great question - on your unit there will be three wires and you will only use two of the three. There will be a normally open and normally closed and you will use only one of these two and then the third wire is the common and you will always use this wire.

This will allow you a very full understanding of the function of those three wires.

Q: Why are you putting this on the hinged side of the door???
A: Perhaps more practical for location raceways, power. The downside is the reality of getting the door substantially ajar before the state of the switch changes. I would prefer to see this at the latching side or the top rail of the door near the latching side. There are units with a much higher "High Security Switches" from GRI as seen starting on page 115 pf the manufacturers catalog here:
