Q: I recently restored an old oak door. Im hoping to get some professional guidance on the best way of weatherstripping. I had to build a new oak jamb, and the arched top tested my finish carptentry skills. The door functions great, but the jamb on the strike side has a gap thats nearly 3/8". Would a spring bronze weatherstrip work for this? Also, I have a gap at the bottom of the door that is a consistent 1/2" between the threshold and the bottom of the door slab. Do you have a recommendation on sealing the bottom of the door? Im hoping to keep the aesthetics as "old" as possible (minimize any rubber/plastic if possible) Thank you for any help you can give me. All of your online reviews are great.

A: I would consider spring bronze as a potential solution but admittedly 3/8" in the world of doors is an awfully wide gap. Regarding the bottom of the door I would consider interlocking thresholds as my first choice when it comes to keeping it “as old as possible“. Would you want to do solid architectural bronze for the threshold as well?
