Q: hello. i purchased an everbilt kick down doorstop, commercial grade, from home depot. the tip that came with it allows the door stop to slide across our wood floor. do you sell 1) a rubber tip that a) will fit this door stop and b) not allow the door stop to slide across the wood floor or 2) a similar kick down doorstop that already comes with such a rubber tip? thanks
A: What is the closing device on the door?
Q: hi, richard. thanks for the quick reply. let me see if i can explain. our bedroom is connected to the family room. there is a set of double-doors between the 2 rooms. the doors open from the family room into the bedroom. they close towards each other. each door has a set of stationary handles on each side. there are no locks on the door handles. when closed, the doors merely ‘click’ into place, side-by-side. there is a small, recessed plate in the upper casing above each door, with a small, spring ‘ball’ that ‘clicks' into the plate to keep the door in place. as such, the doors can be opened at any time, i.e., there is no way to prevent them from being opened. i think the optimal way to secure the doors is to modify one door to install a slide bolt at the top, or bottom, or both, and then modify the other door with a traditional locking mechanism to fit into the ‘stationary’ door (i.e., the door kept closed by the sliding bolts). i did not want to go through all of that work, so i thought i would buy the kick-stands and at least have a way to keep the door from being opened from the family room, when we are physically in the bedroom. as mentioned, the kick-stands i bought have a tip that allows them to slide across the wood floor. if you have any other ideas, let me know. thanks, richard.
A: The best way to do this is to install a single slide bolt to secure the inactive door to the frame such as the IDH 11043B surface bolt as seen here (available in several finishes):

and then simply remove the 2 - dummy trims from the active door and replace them with a privacy set. This would involve first getting the matching privacy set (email us a photo and we will help determine what brand, design, color you have), then drilling and mortising for the privacy set. This is the preferred way to proceed because a privacy set will allow for the emergency release provision. You can add kickdown holders or surface bolts to keep the doors closed when the room is occupied, but these will not allow enter in case of an emergency short of damages the doors, frame, walls etc.
To answer the original question, kick down door holders would not work as you need. They simply will not hold the door closed in the way you intend.
