Questions and Answers
Q: I just wanted to make sure your Cwlocks 2723 Original Fox Style Police Lock Double Bolt Lock is lockable from the out side before ordering? Thanks
A: The included rim cylinder (RUI keyway) and backplate allow exterior access
Q: Did the Fox Lock makers ever redesign the mechanism so the inside knob didn't need to be pulled out before turning? This was always the weak point in the lock, the stripping of the engagement pin.
A: Not to my knowledge I can tell you that I've not heard of this stripping of the engagement pin as a weak point of this lock. Can you provide an additional narrative or even photographs so that I may understand this more fully?
Q: I used the locks in a building in midtown New York City from the 1970s to 1990s. I then brought one of those locks out to Wyoming and put it on a factory door. The cylinder never worked very well as the key was difficult to remove. The pin that engaged the square brass tube wore out a long time ago and I fashioned a pin out of a tempered hardened steel flooring nail. That worked until the square brass tube wore out. What finally ended the locks life was someone turned the knob without disengaging it by pulling it out. I ordered an entire new Fox lock to replace everything. I did notice some reviews in which someone complained of the sticking key in the cylinder. I inquired about the possibility of a newer design because I kept seeing the lock referenced as “the original design” hoping that there might be a newer design that fixed the flaws (as I experienced them).
A: Thank you very much for the feedback and I can only say that a key that does not work properly in the cylinder might be better or best served by review from a qualified locksmith to see if it's simply a peeing issue or a locksmithing concerned that the right person can mitigate. You ever get a chance to visit those old installations and take some photos - please send them to us.
