Q: How to center door
A: The 900 Series Floor Closer is equipped with Centering Gears
on both sides of it's housing. An adjustment wrench is provided
with the kit. Remove the Dress Cover to expose the mechanism.
With the wrench, try 1/4 turn and check door by opening all of the
way and letting it self close. Adjust until door centers in the opening.
Maximum adjustment is 3º degrees in and out. Do not force the
gear beyond that. If door will still not center, adjust the position of
the closer body inside the cement case and make certain that all
fasteners and brackets are securely fastened in place
Adjust the center position of the door by using the
Centering Adjustment Gears on either side of the
closer mechanism.

there are two 3° Degree Door
Centering Adjustments
Q: my closer swings the door open - not closed. how do i fix this?
A: Very common actually. This is because when you reinstall the door onto the floor closer body you have the spindle 90° oriented open. You need to unhang the door, turn the spindle with a wrench 45° +/- open and place the door back onto the spindle.
Q: How do you adjust the backcheck? The door swings open rather quickly
A: Great door closer question. Backcheck is a control valve that arrests the uncontrolled and rapidly opening cycle of a door beginning at about 70°
The
CRL J993H0D CRL Jackson® 900 Series Spring Power Adjustable Floor Mounted Closer Body and Cement Case Basic Package - 180 Degree Swing Hold Open @ 90 Degrees and 120 Degrees
does not have a backcheck valve and
according to the manufacturers installation instructions on page 6 as seen here:

the only mention they make of backcheck is that you are to increase or decrease the spring power nut and specifically:
Oversize doors may require an increase in the backcheck resistance. Adjust the larger hex nut clockwise to increase the power of the spring or counter-clockwise to decrease the power.
This is problematic because not only does the closer not have any backcheck control but increasing the spring power to compensate for a lack of a back check valve will certainly render this a non-handicap compliant closer.
Q: Can the door hold open function be deactivated? Owner does not wish to have the door held open.
A: The CRL J993H0D CRL Jackson® 900 Series Spring Power Adjustable Floor Mounted Closer Body and Cement Case Basic Package - 180 Degree Swing Hold Open @ 90 Degrees and 120 Degrees is not a selective hold open. You will need to replace the floor closer body with the Non-Hold open models which can be reviewed here:
