The attached sketch shows the numbers stamped on the end of the closer. You should rotate the pdf of the sketch counterclockwise a quarter turn for the same orientation as the photo. The numbers are hand stamped with a number punch, so the photo does not quite pick them up. The building was remodeled in 1981, so your theory that 79-3 refers to manufacture date is very likely correct. The number 4 could be the spring size, as you suggest. The casting on the body of the closer says SL72 Clarksdale, Miss. The existing door is Oak Solid core; 36 in. x 84 in.; 1.75 in. thick. Probably weighs 100 pounds or better. I intend to replace the door only with a fiberglass door of the same dimensions and expect it will weigh half of the oak door weight. The concerns are: Should I have the spring replaced with a lighter rate one, due to the change in door weight if I retain the existing closer? Would it be more cost effective to buy a series DC 3210 or DC6210 with the correct spring, instead of fooling with rebuilding the existing unit. Another vendor says on their website for the Series 110 as follows: The Corbin 100, 110 and 120 Door Closer are no longer available. They have been replaced by the DC6210, which has the same hole spacings and arm. You will not have to redrill or modify your door to make the DC6210 work in place of your existing 100, 110 or 120 door closers. The DC6210 has a little bit larger body due to the increased functionality of this closer. This new closer will meet all the ADA requirements. It would be nice to keep the same mounting holes on the existing door frame, if I switch to the 3210 or 6210. I have the Hold Open Arm Parallel Bracket, similar to the Part No. 509F49. The DC3210 comes with the hold open arm bracket and it appears to be the exact same bracket as my series 110. There are five mounting holes in the plate, where it attaches to the door jamb face; whereas the 509F49 has only four holes on the mounting plate. The mounting holes to the door need not be the same, because the existing door is being replaced, but I am retaining the existing door jamb. So using the same mounting plate, compatible with the new door closer would be very nice. Thanks for your assistance.
