Q: Do we offer HD-QEL?
A: Yes:

  • Hex key dogging (HD) is now available with Von Duprin non fire rated QEL33A/35A/98/99 electric exit devices that were shipped after December 2014.
  • HD-QEL conversion kit and HD-QEL base plate conversion kit are also available to convert the non fire QEL exit devices.
  • Hex key dogging (HD) is available with Von Duprin QEL94/95 electric exit devices only on non fire rated ones.
  • Q: Why is my Von Duprin QEL light flashing red and green?
A: A red and green flashing LEDs on a QEL indicates the device has been tampered with while power was applied, the push pad was pulled out at least three time. Wait 15 seconds and latchbolt will retract again or remove and reapply power to clear condition.QEL devices shipped prior to December 2014 will take up to two minutes to reset.

The push bar being pulled out three times while power is applied causes the lights to flash and the device to stop retracting.

Check to make sure there is no bind of the latch.

Q: How many Von Duprin QEL devices can be connected to a power supply?
A: Product Ordered after 7/10/2012 - Product identified by label on QEL motor

You no longer need to use the 900-2Q option board (no longer available) with the PS900 power supplies to operate the QEL+ devices. You can use either the 900-2RS or the 900-4RL boards to operate the new style or current QEL+ device.

If a customer uses a power supply from another manufacturer, Von Duprin will still warranty all parts and components from the Von Duprin QEL exit device. The warranty will be voided if the customer uses a power supply that does not meet the specification requirements of the QEL.

"The new Von Duprin QEL requires a 24 volt, 2 amp regulated power supply. An option board/control switch is still required per the needs of the application, but the new QEL does not require a dedicated -2Q board. The QEL can be powered with any properly working 24V, 2 amp regulated power supply."

The attached table shows the number of QEL+ exit devices that can be used with PS900 series power supplies. An existing 900-2Q will operate the current QEL+ device.

    Table as follows:

Power supply model number / Number of QEL + devices / Gauge & maximum wire run from power supply to each QEL+ exit device / Gauge & maximum wire run from power supply to each QEL+ exit device / Gauge & maximum. wire run from power supply to each QEL+ exit device / Gauge & maximum wire run from power supply to each QEL+ exit device

    PS902-2RS / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320’ max / 14 gauge, 500 max 12 gauge, 800 max
    PS904-2RS / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320 max / 14 gauge, 500 max / 12 gauge, 800 max
    PS904-4RL / 1 to 4 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320 max / 14 gauge, 500 max / 12 gauge, 800 max
    PS906-2RS / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320 max / 14 gauge, 500 max / 12 gauge, 800 max
    PS906-4RL / 1 to 4 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320 max 14 gauge, 500 max / 12 gauge, 800 max
    PS906-4RL-4RL / 1 to 8 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320 max / 14 gauge, 500 max / 12 gauge, 800 max
    PS914-2RS / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320 max / 14 gauge, 500 max / 12 gauge, 800 max
    PS914-4RL / 1 to 4 / 18 gauge, 200 max / 16 gauge, 320 max / 14 gauge, 500 max / 12 gauge, 800 max

PS914-4RL-4RL: 1 to 8 If controlling 8 QEL devices, consider contacting Von Duprin technical support to review the application.

    Note: 2RS represents a 900-2RS board and 4RL represents a 900-4RL.

Product Ordered before 7/10/2012 - Product identified by no label on QEL motor.

You must use the 900-2Q option board with the PS900 power supplies to operate the QEL devices. The attached table shows the number of QEL exit devices that can be used with PS900 series power supplies.

Power supply model number / Number of QEL devices / Gauge & maximum run wire from power supply to each QEL exit device

    PS902-2Q / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire
    PS904-2Q / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire
    PS904-2Q-2Q / 3 or 4 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire
    PS906-2Q / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire
    PS906-2Q-2Q / 3 or 4 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire
    PS906-2Q-2Q-2Q / 5 or 6 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire
    PS914-2Q / 1 or 2 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire
    PS914-2Q-2Q / 3 or 4 / 18 gauge, / 200 max run wire

Q: Why would QEL retract and release repeatedly?
A: The following could cause the QEL device to retract and release repeatedly:

If this is a vertical rod type device, the vertical rods could be adjusted too short.
Check rods for dead locking, if no dead locking adjust the rods.

If there is no communication between the power supply and the QEL device.
First make sure a PS900 series power supply with 900-2Q option board is being used.
If using the correct power supply and option board, then activate the control input (card reader, key pad, etc.) then hold the calibration button on the QEL motor while activating the retraction for the device then release the button.

Wrong gauge wire could also cause the QEL device to pull and release repeatedly.
Required #18 gauge up to 200 feet maximum run wire.
