Q: Hi Richard, I just saw your video on BRK RM4 Auxiliary Relay Module for Smoke Alarms youtube https://youtu.be/M_SS36bit5U I also saw another video where a guys (though incorrectly) hooked up the relay to his DSC alarm system which is what I’m trying to do. that video is here: https://youtu.be/ByO_dSk7tOc and it is down in the comments where someone points out it did the wiring slightly incorrectly. I’m in the process of changing out my Brinks/ADT alarm system for a DSC alarm system with monitoring by alarmrelay.com Instead of replacing all the Brinks/ADT battery wireless smoke detectors for DSC versions… I was hoping I could simply tie my wired house (120v) smoke detectors back into the alarm panel and not buy battery-powered wireless smoke detectors. From the research I have done it seems I could use a couple different relay’s, the kiddie sm120x or your BRK RM4. I then thought if I can use a relay to send a signal back to my alarm panel from wired smoke detectors, why don’t I then upgrade my existing wired smoke detectors to Nest Protect v2.0’s. But then I saw their installation video https://youtu.be/PAvU8X5cDCA . Unlike traditional wired smoke detectors, they are saying to put a wire nut over the interconnect wire (red, orange or yellow) and then just use the white and black. So it seems like they will not be setup in series and wonder if this kills my whole idea of using the BRK RM4 relay with the nests…. Any idea’s or suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks for posting your youtube clip!!! -Erik

Q: I want to hook this up to a 24-volt strobe. Would I need a transformer, and if so how would I hook that up?
A: You most likely will not need a transformer because whatever you're connecting this from will provide the power going to it.
Can you tell me more about what you are connecting the relay to on the opposite side of your strobe?
Q: I currently installed BRK smoke an C02 alarms in a new residence I'm building. Fire Department has a requirement that when the sprinkler flow switch is activated we also need to activate the smoke alarms. I originally looked at the BRK RM4 but it appears it will only trigger a remote device. Is there a specific wiring digram you might recommend that will allow me to do this? In summary Sprinkler riser flow switch is activated which activates an exterior alarm bell, I also need to have it activate the smoke alarms.
A: In order for your detectors to alarm along with your devices, you will need to use whats called an RM4 relay. This device allows for auxiliary devices to sound if the detectors are set off. Please review the link as seen here:

to read more on the RM4 relay functions.
Q: does the form c contact on the rm4 have internal voltage on it or is it dry
A: Unless it is specifically marked as wet it would be a dry contact.
