Q: I installed the above hinge for a lady, and she complains of the clicking noise the hinge makes, as well as an occasional spring sound. My question is : Is there a way to make these silent? I notice the older hinge on a different door also seems to click, which I attribute to the hold open catch... Is there another type of hinge, maybe a café type, that would be silent? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Lebron
A: The spring and "birdsmouth" on the hold open will give of a noise when the spring pivot is "working". I believe if you remove the two covers a lubricate the moving and compressing parts, you will certainly mitigate the issue significantly. I would use a gel or multipurpose grease type lubricant so to minimize any of it ending up on the floor.
There are no good options to replace this spring pivot as all other types of hardware will require different preparations, require a different net soor size and shape and you would be left with the large cut out in the bottom of the door.
I suggest you lubricate and simply come to the conclusion, "it is what it is".
Please le tus know how this turns out.
