Q: my deadbolt will close with the key but when locked the only way to remove the key is to open the deadbolt
A: This is a great question and a very common issue - and is easily corrected. The typical deadbolt can be installed in a way that would result in this condition and the cause is the "timing" of the tailpiece. Simply uninstall the lock and rotate the tailpiece 180° in whatever direction you can turn it in, reassemble the lock and test for proper operation.

Q: We just installed the Baldwin Wesley handle set and it installed pretty easily, but I'm curious as to why the interior deadbolt knob is vertical when the door is locked? Can this be changed? I would prefer that it be horizontal when locked, as a properly designed deadbolt should be. Thanks in advance for your help.?
A: It is simply how you have the interior thumbturn timed with the tailpiece. Simply remove the thumbturn, rotate the thumbturn 90° and reinstall. Does this solve the problem?
Q: Looking for replacement cylinder for Baldwin 8231 -003? and Baldwin Baldwin 85375 Glennon door set? I need to replace them as the contractors broke the cylinder for the Baldwin 85375 Glennon is broken and for the dead bolt they lost the keys. Also the Door set cylinder "Metal Connector shaft broke, so maybe just the replacement part but I rather just replace the cylinder, and the dead bolt is missing the keys, but I could get a locksmith to rekey but I trying to get all the doors working.
Thanks
A: The replacement item is the BA8031.003.KD12 and is the same cylinder used for both the Door Hanlde and the Deadbolt. Please reach out to our sales department (contact us in website) and they will assist you in entering this order.
Q: at 3:50 you see a slotted plastic coupler (right hand) that connects the knob to the flat metal rod that turns the lock mechanism. Mine keeps slipping and coming off the inside of the knob resulting in a condition where I turn the knob, and it just keeps turning, not locking or unlocking. How can I solve this?
A: Regarding the tailpiece connector that you refer to in the video, the proper repair would be a replacement of the interior thumb-turn altogether. Having said that you might simply try to epoxy the malfunctioning piece back in place however you simply can't trust a repair like that to safely permit egress in an emergency.
Q: Rich The thumb turn fell out. Looks like it’s grooved end fits in the grooved receptacle. Should I just tap it back in or is something broken? Thank you for your clear video! Tim
A: It's likely that a replacement of the entire interior thumb-turn assembly is necessary. While repair may be possible it is not recommended as the need in emergency to unlock the door would be a paramount priority.
Please tell me the color of your lock and I will email you a quote for the replacement thumb-turn alone.
Q: We have a Baldwin deadbolt installed on our kitchen door. I’m not sure of the precise model number as it was installed 25 years ago. It appears to be very similar if not the same as the Baldwin 8231 traditional Deadbolt. The deadbolt has been slipping for a while … When I disassembled the Inside portion of the deadbolt, I discovered that the small metal piece that fits into the outside piece is loose and appears to be bent. I believe the part I am trying to describe that is bent is a Baldwin cylinder tail piece for a cylinder deadbolt. I am attaching pictures of the piece that I am talking about. The thickness of the door is 1 3/4”. The original person that I chatted with, Richard, suggested that I send you this email together with some pictures so that hopefully you can figure out what I need and how to fix it. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

A: From what I see of that deadbolt, you should be able to replace the tailpiece from it. If that is what the problem is.
The tailpiece has a little hook at the end of it that you can’t see because it is it the round part that you sent the picture.
You have to lift up on it on the tailpiece in the vertical position, but I can’t tell which way. You just have to feel for it.
The tailpiece will come out.
If that isn’t the problem, then it could be the other side of the deadbolt. It could be that tailpiece that is hanging up.
Last would be the dead bolt itself. If that is the issue, then you could replace that.
Or if all else fails, replace the whole deadbolt.
