Questions and Answers
Q: Well, I have a question for you. I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel. The designer has made a flub. I'll try and explain. A pantry pullout was placed too close to a wall that has a door leading into the garage. The pullout hits the door knob, preventing it from fully opening, limiting it's use. I wondering about a new door with a 5" backset latch .... and a storage room style handle
A: You can obtain practically any backset dimension you would like (12" or 18" +/-) - it sounds like you are saying that you'd like to be closer to 7-1/2 in. This can be accomodated by simply stacking the backside extension links together. It was a very common mid-twentieth century feature to have extended backets, even backsets extending to the center of the door itself and was done at one time for an aesthetic and you're doing it at this time to eliminate a conflict of hardware.
