Questions and Answers
Q: replacement foam inserts
A: We are indeed able to provide you with the replacement neoprene inserts for this item. How many and what lengths do you require?
Q: Hi Rich, I received the automatic door bottom. Question: I've seen your videos about these and in them you are able to depress the plunger with a finger to demonstrate how they work. The one I received has a LOT of tension on that plunger. I haven't put it on the door yet, but I have to actually put the plunger end on the ground and press the bar down with both hands to get the plunger to depress and extend the insert. Seems if I put this on my door a) it will scratch/damage the wood jamb and b) require a concerted effort to close the door. I have adjusted the depth of the plunger in and out and the result is the same. Absolutely no way to depress it with a finger, or even my hand. Too much force required. Please advise. Best, Dominic
A: There are indeed several automatic door bottoms that I can depress with my finger to actuate however there are just as many that I cannot, especially short ones like yours. There is nothing unusual about this. I usually find I have to place the plunger end onto the top of my desk and then push with both hands to get the drop bar to actually move.

If you have a wood frame you will want to install a flat head, very short screw, drilled and countersunk into the frame exactly where the plunger bolt will make contact with the jamb so as to prevent long term gouging of the wood frame.

Regarding the force required to close your door, based on your conclusion of the force required to activate it, I do not believe you will have any trouble what-so-ever with the door allowing the plunger to depress.

There are low closing force models available but you might want to "make a go" of the unit you purchased as it it non-returnable. Also too I have not yet had a problem of the spring stiffness in an automatic door bottom from interfering with normal door operation. If you have to push a tad harder, the benefits of the automatic door bottom far exceed that possible additional force.

Please report back to us your results.

Q: Ok, makes sense. I'll give it a try. And I know there will be a lot more force being applied at the plunger with less effort once it's on the door. So yeah, it could be fine.
