A: To be technically correct you'd have to review the procedures in place from the manufacturer of that wood door - I would assume that you could add a pair of metal edges that are listed and labeled such as the All Metal Stamping 206 x 206 is referred to as seen here:

I would plane down the doors accordingly to achieve the proper final gap between the two doors after the metal edges were applied

Obviously you have to first make sure that a flying that metal edges not going to conflict with the upper or lower watch assemblies or kick plates or other hardware that might be there.
