Q: Hi Richard, thanks so much for the information on this video! It's been great to get to know my system better. I have a front gate that opens from the inside buzzer and I recently replaced the electric strike for an identical model sold by Trine 001 8-16VAC/4-6VDC. After playing with it for hours I realized the strike only moves the latch when the entire piece is held upside down.unfortunately I can't rotate it and install it this way. In the box there was an insert that reads "COIL CAP - Only use coil caps when the strike does not electronically work in the upside down or left handed position" This is me! What I don't indersand is HOW to install the little caps. The second and final step reads "1) Remove springs from coil (I got that) 2) "Use a flat head screwdriver attach the caps" Not only is it improperly written, I just don't know how to pop the caps into the core of the coil without damaging the flimsy little caps provided. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. I can also send you a picture of the coil and the small instruction instert if you would like. Thanks again for your time and resources!
A: Thank you for asking about this strike. The Trine 001 is probably to most common strike for residential / light duty commercial applications that exist. Trine also manufacturers a comprehensive offering of strikes as seen here:

First please understand it is not necessary to reverse the strike from the Right Hand operation as it comes from the factory to a Left Hand operation, unless the strike does not operate as a Left Hand. The strike, from the factory, when installed as a Left Hand might and usually work perfectly. If it does not which can be caused by voltage drop, preload on the keeper or as a result of an ill fitting installation. The item keeping the keeper locked, I will call the keeper bolt, when installed as a Left Hand is now asked to defy gravity and overcoming its own weight by needing to be pulled up. In my experience, the addition of the coil caps effectively shortens the gap between the coil and the keep bolt. To illustrate this, please see this video and start at minute marker 7:55

Q: Richard! You are the man! I can't believe you put this video together just days after my request. I greatly appreciate it. I have taken the steps to install the coil caps and properly install my device onto my front gate. Unfortunately the latch is still not releasing when the open button is pushed from inside the home. The button is directly next to the door and in the shape of a doorbell (round) when you push it you immediately hear buzzing at the gate but there is no release to the latch. (I'm having to open the gate manually with the key as the latch gets locked.) When I replaced the previous Trine 001 with the new one I noticed there have been several connections from the main power line to the actual device. Possibly three different extensions have been created and I'm wondering if that may be keeping the power from going all the way through the strike to release the latch. Is it possible that the buzzer is faulty if it's buzzing at the door? Appreciate your thoughts Richard! Q: how does the trine 001 get installed? I am not sure how to get it fitted on the door without a ramp. thanks
