Pemko Door Bottom Sweep
Questions and Answers
Q: What are the pros/cons of a door sweep with vinyl brushes vs. the vinyl fin? Im trying to keep rain from blowing under my front door. Im looking at Pemko sweeps with drip guards.
A: Vinyl has no pros when compared to all other sealing options. Very poor performance with exposure to UV and extreme temperatures. Vinyl will fatigue rather quickly and if the choices are vinyl and bristle, bristle is my choice just simply by disqualifying the V option.

Having said this, here is information regarding bristle as a sealing item:

Bristle is simply the most effective weatherseal and is 98.5% effective in blocking air infiltration. It is at least three times more effective than vinyl, and almost never needs replacement. Bristle is a better choice to combat interference with the operation of the door. A study by the U.S. Navy on energy conservation found Therm-L-Brush to be the superior weatherseal material.

How does it work?:
Bristle is a dense wall of nylon filaments bound securely by a strip of galvanized steel and held in an aluminum holder. This wall of nylon forms an almost air-tight barrier. It is flexible, allowing unimpeded door movement. It will not tear or pull out and conforms to surface irregularities maintaining a complete weather tight seal for the life of the door.*
