Q: I own the Kwikset 138 installation kit and about the 3rd time I used it, the guide pin that holds the guide arms in place snapped off. Is it possible to replace just the plate with the pin without replacing the whole jig? It is not worth it to buy the whole jig for $350. Thank you,
A: It's possible that i might be able to work out a solution with the factory but please email me a photograph of the damaged area along with the information regarding the order in terms of how old is it and where it was bought from. I will see what I can do to help.
Q: Richard, Are you familiar with the Kwikset 138 lock installation kit? Is it good quality? If not, is there an equivalent? I’ve got about 30 knobs/locks to drill for and install in the next couple of months. I’ve got an old kwikset kit that porter cable apparently makes now, but it is pretty worn out and missing a couple of things. Not too impressed with most of porter cable stuff these days. Thanks, Roger G
A: If I was going to purchase an entire new installation kit I would purchase the one as seen here:

It is of higher quality in all regards however if you already have the Kwikset in our missing just a couple of pieces and it will do the job for a quantity of 30 doors I might very strongly leaning towards purchasing only the missing pieces to complete what you already own but if you expect to do more than a job of 30 and in the future continue to do more and more of this work I might argue that it would be time for an upgrade in terms of quality.

Q: What is the maximum door thickness the Kwikset 138 installation kit can handle?
A: Up to 2-1/2" Door Thickness the 138 can accommodate.
