Questions and Answers
Q: Can this filler be stained? And will it stain the same as the surrounding wood?
A: Most certainly Famowood FW1QT Wood Filler - Solvent Based can be painted, varnished, lacquered, stained and oiled. I have even mixed in a small amount of stain with the filler with a minor increase in results.
Q: Just looking for the best nail hole filler for MDF trim. I've used a nail gun and brad nailer so the holes are standard sized. I have heard that it's risky to use a water-based filler for MDF but have also seen videos where people recommend DryDex for filling small nail holes in MDF. I understand why a solvent-based product would be best and I want as little shrinkage as possible so as not to see the holes down the road later and I want something that is easy to sand. DIY on your own home with a touch of OCD is not a good combination! Sounds like Famowood Wood filler (solvent) would be a good choice. Thanks for whatever info you can provide.
A: I too would avoid a water-based product for mdf trim and have used hundreds of cans of the Famowood and it sounded to be acceptable in all instances - filling nail heads be a very good use for this wood filler.
