Q: do you have any instructions for replacing the geneva hinge gaskets?
A: I do not but is a specific question I can attempt to answer?
Q: Lets try this. It looks simple enough to do. Remove the old gaskets and replace with the new. I have a glass door with two 180 hinges mounted glass to glass. And the door is of significant weight. Can I leave the door in place and Remove and Replace the hinges one at a time? I would like to do this because I do not have glass suction tools for handling he door Once its detached. Or do I have to remove the entire door? And working with it like that? The removal of the existing hinges looks straight forward. The old black gaskets Appear pretty deteriorated and somewhat stuck onto the glass. Whats the best Way to remove the old gasket material? Razor blade? Tell me anything else that might be handy as well. Thanks Dennis
A: Yes but you must adequately shim and secure the door so that it does not move at all and more importantly that it does not accidentally fall.
I have managed this gasket swap without the need to glass handling suction holders and yes I carefully remove the deteriorated original gaskets with a new utility blade.
The only and most important part of this (you are correct is stating this is simple enough and I would say very straightforward) is safety. A piece of 3/8" thick glass is extremely heavy and dangerous. I would not nor have I attempted to do this alone and if you feel there is any possibility for danger, simply call a glass company. Give them your gaskets and pay the glass companies installation team the money to perform the operation such that there is nothing damaged and no one is harmed.

Q: One more question before I order….. Clear Gaskets or black gaskets? My door was installed with Black gaskets on top(Fail) and clear on bottom(Good). Somewhere I read that the clear ones lasted longer. It’s interesting that my black one Failed and my clear one is still good. Any truth to this? Or is it simply the top gasket Does the most weight bearing casuing the fail? I’d like to order the clear ones if there’s no reason to put a balck one on top. Thanks for the info Dennis
A: Your observation that the clear gasket lasts longer than the black match my experience the Clear Plastic is more indefatigable when compared to the Black Neoprene. Simply put, the plastic (and its constituent base make up) will last longer. Not to say the Black Neoprene will prematurely fatigue, but in a head to head comparison the plastic wins for longevity and is indeed ultimately easier to replace as it returns some of it original condition at the end of its life cycle.
Q: What is actual size of gasket please? 3.25 x 1.75 needed. Thank you
