Specifications & Installation
  • Tubing: Fabricated of #18 ga stainless steel with a #4 satin finish. Available in 1 1/4" outside diameter. All bends are formed by an automatic mandrel bending process. All bars maintain a constant 1 1/2" offset.
  • Finish: Standard finish is a #4 satin finish. For a non-slip finish (peened) add suffix X to model number. (Ex. UG120X-B)
  • Flange: Fabricated of 3" diameter, #11 ga stainless steel with #4 satin finish to match tubing. Flanges are heliarc welded to bar to form a one piece construction. Each flange has three (3) mounting points (1/4" dia.)
  • Strength: Bars with a 1 1/2" offset clearance will support loads in excess of 900lbs when properly installed. Bars with greater offsets will support loads up to 250lbs when properly installed.
  • Tension Control Mechanism: An adjustable clutch to control the amount of tension on the bar required to raise and lower the bar. This prevents bar form falling when in the up-right position.
  • Check all state and local building codes for proper mounting heights and locations. ADA code specifies 33”-36” above finished floor for maximum mounting height.
  • When properly mounted, swing-up type bar will sustain a static load of 250 lbs.
  • Installation: Coordinate installation with architect and contractor to avoid interference with toilet, stall doors, etc. Place unit on wall surface making sure unit is level, transfer mounting points and drill pilot holes. Secure unit with proper fasteners per application.
  • NOTE: When possible is recommended to use BP-30 in wall back plates when mounting swing-up grab bars. Under the square tube is an adjustment pin that will control the tension on the raising and lowering of the bar. Adjust to proper tension and test the path of the bar.

Questions and Answers
Q: I spent time with the facility manager today. We have concluded that the straddle bar support will not work for this lady because she has a regular toilet with a tank. If the bar is placed above the tank, then the support arms would be much too high for her to use. Is there a possibility of getting the 2 curved grab bars separately so that they could be attached to the wall on both sides of her toilet tank and then protrude out toward the toilet seat area without being attached to each other? The height of the arms needs to be 26" from the floor for the grab bars to work for her. The distance from the wall behind her toilet can be no more than 30" to not protrude past her toilet. Please share with me the various measurements for these bars. I assume these bars fasten in the same way as traditional vertical or horizontal bars that screw into the wall. Is this true? Thank you for your help.

Q: Since two bars would be needed, this would be too expensive to use as an option. Why is it necessary to have the bar in between the grab bars on the original straddle grab bars? Do you have any other options that are less expensive but still serve as grab bars for a toilet to use instead of the basic aluminum ones that fasten to the toilet? The facility will allow bars to fasten into the walls, but ones that drop to the floor cannot be used. Thank you for your help. Bonnie
A: Based on your space and budget limitations, I do not have a solid recommendation for you for this application. May I ask, is this an application where ADA compliance is mandatory?
