Questions and Answers
Q: What Steelcraft products have been tested in accordance with SDI's Acoustical Testing Standard #SDI 114?
A: SDI 114 is no longer published as an SDI performance standard. The new SDI standard for acoustical Performance is SDI 128-09

Steelcraft does offer products that have been tested in accordance with SDI 128-09 and per ASTM E90 "Standard Test Method for Laboratory Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss of Building Partitions and Elements" and calculated per ASTM E413 "Classification for Rating Sound Insulation" Information on SDI 128-09 and Steelcraft STC ratings refer to solution ID #54400 titled "Are Steelcraft products Sound Transmission Classification (STC) rated?" which can be viewed here:

Steelcraft has tested different types of doors and frame assemblies using Zero International gasket seals for the various STC ratings. Tests are in accordance to ASTM E90 and ASTM E413.

The maximum rating would be 40 for the B-series (steel stiffened) door when used with the approved gasket.

Frames can be installed either KD (knock down) or welded to receive the STC rating. Steelcraft borrowed light frames are not listed/tested. Check with the glass manufacture if they are listed and with what type of framing used. Sound seals are required. Zero International Gasket Notes:

  • Perimeter Seals – Zero #475 applies to the stop of the head and jambs.
  • Door bottom – Zero #367, surface applied.
  • Threshold – Zero #560 (non-ADA)
  • Zero #566 (ADA compliant)
  • Q: Do any products offered by Steelcraft contain asbestos?

  • Steelcraft 3/8” or 1/2” thick fire rated transom and/or sidelight panels - production of the asbestos core ended in 1983.
  • Q: Is a Steelcraft Tech Data Manual available?

To order a printed copy of the Steelcraft Tech Data Manual contact the Customer Care Team at 877-671-7011 (press prompt #5).
